Avro Vulcan B.2

The Avro Vulcan is one of the most distinctive British military aircraft ever produced. Its enormous delta wing and four-engine configuration made it instantly recognisable and an enduring symbol of Britain's Cold War aviation history.

Originally developed as part of Britain's V-bomber nuclear deterrent force, the Vulcan later performed a variety of roles and became particularly famous for its participation in the Falklands War's long-range Black Buck missions.

Vulcan XL426

The aircraft represented by AA27207 is Avro Vulcan B.2 XL426, one of the surviving examples of this legendary aircraft.

XL426 served as an RAF Vulcan Display Flight aircraft, appearing before millions of spectators at airshows before leaving RAF service. It was sold into private ownership in 1986 and made its final flight from RAF Scampton to Southend Airport, where it remains today.

Vulcan Restoration Trust

Today, XL426 is cared for by the Vulcan Restoration Trust.

Although no longer airworthy, the aircraft is maintained in running condition and regularly performs spectacular high-speed taxi demonstrations at Southend Airport.

XL426 performed its first fast taxi demonstration in March 1997, and these events have since become extremely popular with aviation enthusiasts.
