The Tamiya Volkswagen Golf II GTI 16V recreates one of the most iconic European hot hatchbacks of the 1980s as a 1/10 scale RC assembly kit.

Tamiya 47516 is a special version of the Golf II GTI kit featuring a factory pre-painted Bright Red polycarbonate body with Smoke-tinted windows. Underneath is Tamiya's versatile MB-01 2WD chassis, configured as front-motor, front-wheel drive to replicate the drivetrain layout of the real Golf GTI.

Pre-Painted Bright Red Body

One of the biggest advantages of 47516 is the factory-finished body.

The polycarbonate Golf body comes pre-painted in Tamiya PS-34 Bright Red, with the windows finished in PS-31 Smoke. The wheel arches are pre-cut and the body mounting holes are pre-made, significantly reducing the amount of body preparation required.

Separate black plastic components reproduce the bumpers and side mirrors, while transparent components are used for the front and rear lights.

Volkswagen Golf II GTI 16V

The second-generation Volkswagen Golf arrived in 1983, with the more powerful GTI 16V joining the range in 1986.

Its 1,781cc inline four-cylinder DOHC 16-valve engine helped establish the Golf GTI as one of the defining performance hatchbacks of its generation. Competition-prepared versions also appeared in rallying around the world.

MB-01 Front-Wheel-Drive Chassis

For the Golf II GTI, the chassis is built in the 239mm Long wheelbase/front-wheel-drive configuration.

Independent Double-Wishbone Suspension

The MB-01 uses four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension with a symmetrical design.

Friction dampers provide suspension control, while modular motor mount, final-drive and suspension sections are designed to make assembly and maintenance straightforward.

Dish Wheels & Radial Tyres

Period-style dish wheels are paired with radial rubber tyres, complementing the understated appearance of the Mk2 Golf.

The relatively narrow 170mm overall width also gives the finished model proportions that suit the compact original vehicle.

Torque-Tuned 540 Motor Included

A Tamiya 540-Type Torque-Tuned brushed motor is included.

The Torque-Tuned motor provides a useful balance between acceleration and manageable performance, making it well suited to the lightweight MB-01 chassis.

ESC Included

The Australian 47516-600 package includes an Electronic Speed Controller, along with the Torque-Tuned motor.

This means the main additional electronics required are your radio system and steering servo.
