Classic Carlectables 1/18 Ford XW Falcon GT-HO Phase II – Shell Yellow

The Classic Carlectables Ford XW Falcon GT-HO Phase II is a highly detailed 1/18 scale diecast replica of one of the most legendary Australian muscle cars ever produced. Finished in striking Shell Yellow, this limited-edition model captures the unmistakable appearance and character of Ford’s formidable 1970 XW GT-HO Phase II.

Introduced in 1970, the XW GT-HO Phase II was developed as part of Ford Australia’s determination to succeed in production car racing and, most importantly, at Bathurst. Approximately 400 examples of the Phase II were produced, making the original vehicle one of the most desirable Australian performance cars of its era.

Mechanically, the Phase II represented a significant step forward from its predecessor. The Windsor V8 was replaced by Ford’s 351 cubic-inch Cleveland V8, officially rated at 300bhp, although its actual output was widely considered to be considerably higher. The combination of the powerful Cleveland engine and competition-focused chassis improvements made the Phase II an exceptionally capable performance car.

The suspension also received considerable attention. Heavy-duty shock absorbers, six-leaf rear springs and larger front and rear stabiliser bars were fitted, while unique heavy-duty front springs were developed specifically for the Phase II. Revised front spindle geometry and new upper control arms provided additional clearance for wider tyres.

Externally, the Phase II retained the muscular styling of the XW Falcon GT but was fitted with distinctive 14 x 6-inch five-slot wheels with chrome hubcaps. Combined with the twin headlight front end, bonnet scoop, GT striping and classic XW body shape, the result became one of the most recognisable designs of Australia’s muscle-car era.

Inside, the original Phase II received Ford’s high-specification GT interior with a centre console, sports steering wheel, comprehensive instrumentation, radio, floor mats and distinctive door trims featuring woodgrain and chrome accents.

The performance of the GT-HO Phase II was proven in competition, with Allan Moffat taking victory at both Sandown and Bathurst in 1970, cementing the Phase II’s place in Australian motorsport history.

Classic Carlectables has recreated the road-going Phase II in impressive detail. Opening panels allow the model’s engine bay, interior and other areas to be appreciated, while the detailed 351 Cleveland V8 engine forms one of the highlights of the model.
