The E259 series, a limited express train that debuted in 2009, is the successor to the 253 series and began operation in October of the same year.

A renewal was announced in March 2023, and the first train with a new paint scheme appeared in May of the same year.

All 22 trains are scheduled to have their paint schemes changed by the end of fiscal year 2023.
