The Tamiya The Frog is one of the most recognisable R/C buggies ever produced. First released in 1983, The Frog became a favourite with R/C enthusiasts thanks to its distinctive pink and white racing body, lightweight chassis and entertaining off-road performance. Tamiya brought the legendary buggy back in 2005, retaining the character of the original while introducing several updates to improve durability and reliability.

The Frog uses Tamiya's distinctive ABS space-frame chassis, designed to provide a lightweight yet strong platform for off-road driving. Nylon suspension components and a durable front bumper help the buggy withstand the knocks and bumps associated with running on dirt, gravel and other loose surfaces.

The battery is positioned extremely low in the chassis, helping lower the centre of gravity and giving the buggy improved stability over rough terrain and when landing jumps.

Classic Independent Suspension

The Frog features four-wheel independent suspension, with a double-wishbone arrangement at the front incorporating inboard springs and durable steel radius arms.

At the rear, the distinctive trailing-arm suspension uses horizontally mounted aluminium oil-filled dampers. On the 2005 version, these dampers were updated to diaphragm-type units for improved and more consistent operation.

This unusual suspension arrangement is one of the features that gives The Frog its unmistakable vintage Tamiya character.

Rear-Wheel Drive Performance

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 2WD drivetrain and sealed differential gearbox.

The 2005 re-release also introduced updated dog-bone style rear driveshafts, providing more secure power transmission while retaining the basic layout and character of the original vehicle.

A 540-size brushed motor is included with the kit, providing classic brushed R/C performance that's perfectly suited to the Frog's lightweight chassis.

Iconic Frog Body

Few R/C cars are as instantly recognisable as The Frog.

The lightweight clear polycarbonate buggy body retains the famous shape of the original, complete with its rear wing and distinctive driver area. A comprehensive decal set allows the builder to recreate the classic Frog racing appearance shown on the box.

The body requires trimming and painting, making the building and finishing process an enjoyable part of owning this classic Tamiya kit.

The Frog also retains its distinctive three-piece wheels, fitted with narrow grooved front tyres and large rear spike tyres designed to provide traction on loose off-road surfaces.
