Tamiya 1/700 Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shinano Plastic Model Kit

The Tamiya Japanese Aircraft Carrier Shinano is a 1/700 scale plastic assembly model kit of one of the largest carriers of WWII, converted from a planned Yamato-class battleship hull.

Please note this is an unassembled plastic model kit requiring assembly; paints, cement and hobby tools are not included and are required to complete the model.

One of the largest carriers of WWII, Shinano was originally planned to be the third of the Yamato-class battleships. Construction of this monstrous vessel started soon after the Japanese defeat at Midway and was completed on November 19, 1944. Her overall length stretched to 266m and she displaced 62,000 tons. She was well protected with heavily armoured sides, inherited from Yamato, and a reinforced flight deck able to withstand the direct blast of a 500kg bomb. On her way to be fitted out, however, she was spotted and torpedoed by an American submarine, later capsizing off the shores of Shionomisaki.

Why You'll Love It

Shinano's tragically short career and her Yamato-derived armoured hull make her one of the most compelling "what if" builds in any WWII Japanese Navy collection, backed by a full 32-strong air group.
