Tamiya Lunch Box EVO 1/12 2WD RC Monster Van Kit – 58755-600

The Tamiya Lunch Box EVO takes one of Tamiya's most iconic and entertaining RC vehicles and gives it a substantial chassis update while retaining the unmistakable appearance and wheelie-popping personality of the original.

Tamiya 58755-600 builds on the legendary Lunch Box first released in 1987, adding completely revised suspension, CVA oil-filled shocks on all four corners, a wider track, longer wheelbase, improved steering, full ball bearings and an aluminium wheelie bar.

The Lunch Box – Evolved

The original Lunch Box became famous for its bright yellow custom-van body, huge tyres and ability to lift its front wheels under hard acceleration.

Rather than completely redesigning the vehicle, Tamiya has retained much of the original chassis concept while concentrating on the areas that make the biggest difference to handling.

The result is a Lunch Box that retains the fun character of the original but offers better suspension control, improved stability and more predictable handling.

New Double-Wishbone Front Suspension

One of the biggest changes is at the front.

The EVO replaces the original's simple front suspension with a new independent double-wishbone arrangement, using upper I-arms and lower H-arms.

This gives the front wheels much better control over bumps and uneven surfaces and represents a significant upgrade over the classic Lunch Box suspension design.

New 3-Link Rear Suspension

At the rear, Tamiya has developed a new 3-link rigid axle suspension system complete with a stabiliser.

The arrangement maintains the tough and simple solid-axle character of the Lunch Box while providing improved axle control and stability.

CVA Oil-Filled Shocks – Front & Rear

Perhaps one of the most welcome EVO upgrades is the inclusion of Tamiya CVA oil-filled dampers on all four corners.

Unlike the simpler dampers of the original Lunch Box, the CVA shocks use oil to control suspension movement, providing significantly more consistent damping over bumps and during jumps.

Wider Track & Longer Wheelbase

Tamiya has increased both the track width and wheelbase by 10mm compared with the original Lunch Box.

The EVO now features a 217mm wheelbase and 228mm front and rear track, helping improve traction, stability and controllability while retaining the short-wheelbase proportions that give the Lunch Box its fun handling characteristics.

Lower Body Position

The classic Lunch Box body now sits 7mm lower on the chassis.

Lowering the body helps reduce the vehicle's centre of gravity while also giving the EVO a slightly more purposeful stance.

The reinforced plastic body is securely mounted to the chassis from the sides rather than relying on conventional exposed body posts.

Classic Custom Van Body

The unmistakable Lunch Box custom van body remains a major part of the appeal.

It's manufactured from tough reinforced ABS plastic and retains the classic American custom-van-inspired styling, including the dramatic side artwork.

Tamiya has updated the sticker design for the EVO, including revised lightning graphics, while retaining artwork from the same artist responsible for the original Lunch Box design.

Improved Steering

The steering system now uses equal-length steering tie rods, helping provide smoother and more consistent steering action.

A new front strut tower brace also increases chassis rigidity and can even be used as a transponder mounting location for organised racing or timed events.

Full Ball Bearings

Unlike the basic original model, the Lunch Box EVO comes with a full set of ball bearings.

This reduces drivetrain friction and provides smoother, more efficient operation straight from the kit without requiring an immediate bearing upgrade.

Huge 115mm Off-Road Tyres

The Lunch Box wouldn't be the Lunch Box without its enormous tyres.

The EVO features 115mm diameter, 71mm wide lug-pattern tyres mounted on yellow one-piece deep-rim wheels.

The huge tyres provide plenty of traction and contribute to the distinctive monster-van appearance.

Aluminium Wheelie Bar

Give the Lunch Box EVO full throttle on a high-grip surface and it can still perform the wheelies that made the original famous.

Tamiya has fitted a proper aluminium rear wheelie bar with roller, allowing the van to ride on the rear bar when the front wheels lift under acceleration.

540 Motor Included

Power comes from an included 540-type brushed motor, driving the rear wheels through a tough enclosed gearbox.

A 3-bevel gear differential allows smooth cornering, while the sealed gearbox helps protect the internal drivetrain from dirt and debris.

The new double-wishbone front suspension, 3-link rear suspension, CVA oil shocks, wider track, longer wheelbase, improved steering and full ball bearings address many of the limitations of the original while preserving the simple 2WD drivetrain, huge tyres and wheelie-friendly personality that make a Lunch Box so much fun.
