Tamiya 1/700 JMSDF Defense Ship LST-4001 Ohsumi Plastic Model Kit

The Tamiya JMSDF Defense Ship LST-4001 Ohsumi is a 1/700 scale plastic assembly model kit of the lead ship of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force's Osumi-class transport ships.

Please note this is an unassembled plastic model kit requiring assembly; paints, cement and hobby tools are not included and are required to complete the model.

Plans were drawn up in 1993, and in March 1998 the biggest transport ship of the JMSDF, the Ohsumi, was deployed. She boasts an immense upper deck, with an overall length of 160m and breadth of 25.8m, housing a vehicle loading space on the front and a helicopter landing deck on the rear. The front of her hull supports a 100m long vehicle deck, and in combination with the upper deck can carry between ten and twenty tanks and around forty large-scale vehicles. The rear of the hull holds a 60m long space for two LCAC hovercraft placed end to end; the LCAC, the JSDF's first transport hovercraft, rides on a cushion of air at a height of 1.2m and a maximum speed of 40kt. The Ohsumi enables the efficient transport of ground troops to strategic locations, the rescue of civilians during a large-scale natural disaster, and can potentially function as a supply base for United Nations Peace Keeping Operations.
