Tamiya 1/12 XR311 Combat Support Vehicle 2WD RC Kit

Recreate a milestone from Tamiya’s RC history with the Tamiya 1/12 XR311 Combat Support Vehicle. Originally released in 1977, the XR311 was Tamiya’s first radio-controlled model equipped with a suspension system. This re-release retains the distinctive construction and purposeful military-inspired styling of the original while incorporating selected modern improvements.

The detailed injection-moulded hard body includes interior components and a driver figure for an authentic scale appearance. Underneath, the XR311 features a durable duralumin chassis frame, rear-mounted motor and rear-wheel-drive transmission.

Duralumin 2WD Chassis

The XR311 uses a durable duralumin frame chassis with a classic rear-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration. The drive battery mounts lengthwise along the centre of the chassis, while the receiver and electronic speed controller are positioned on either side to provide balanced weight distribution.

A fully enclosed gearbox protects the internal gears from dirt and debris. During assembly, the transmission can be configured with one of three available gear ratios to suit different running conditions.

Double-Wishbone Suspension

Four-wheel double-wishbone suspension uses upper and lower H-shaped arms with adjustable metal torsion-bar springs. This distinctive arrangement provides independent wheel movement while preserving the mechanical design of the original XR311.

The chassis also features a three-bevel differential and two-piece steering tie-rod system for predictable handling and steering response.

Detailed Hard-Plastic Body

The injection-moulded body accurately captures the rugged, functional appearance of the XR311 Combat Support Vehicle. Separate interior components and a driver figure add scale detail to the open cockpit.

As the body is manufactured from hard plastic rather than polycarbonate, use suitable Tamiya TS spray paint or modelling paint when finishing the body.
