The South Pacific Touring Series was a series for Group E Production Touring cars, and was a support race for the Tasman Championship for Drivers. The 1972 series was held over 4 races in February, starting at Surfers Paradise, then moving to Warwick Farm, Sandown and Adelaide International Raceway. Holden Dealer Team entered the newly developed LJ Torana GTR XU-1, with Peter Brock and Colin Bond in the drivers seat.
