The Vought V-173 "Flying Pancake" was an American experimental aircraft designed by Cahrles Zimmerman as part of the Vought XF5U program for the US Navy. The V-173, like Zimmerman's other "discoidal" aircraft, featured a flat, round fuselage, an almost complete absence of traditional wings, and power from two piston engines. In the case of the V-173, these were two Continental A-80 engines, each producing 80 hp. This unusual aircraft first flew in 1942 and was placed in reserve in 1947.
