This naval version, while retaining the Su-27's exceptional operational performance and striking aerodynamic design, was developed and engineered to operate from the Russian Navy's aircraft carriers. To fulfill this role, the aircraft underwent structural modifications to strengthen its airframe and landing gear, making it suitable for naval operations, including the addition of an arrestor hook.
