the nsw xpt is a diesel-powered high-speed passenger train designed to travel long distances between sydney, melbourne, and brisbane as well as the central west of nsw.

• first entered service on the 8^th april 1982
• powered by a paxman valenta as built, now fitted with a paxman vp185
• power output is 383 kw or 514 hp per engine.
• maximum speed in service is 160 km/h, but it has reached a speed of 193 km/h
• formation: 4 to 7 passenger cars

white headlights, red tail lights, and fully illuminated passenger car interiors bring the xpt to life after dark.
