The Dumas USCG 41' Utility Boat Kit #1214 is a substantial 1/16 scale wooden model boat kit based on the versatile 41-foot Utility Boat once operated by the United States Coast Guard.

At 31 inches (787mm) long with a 10-inch beam, this is an impressive scale project featuring accurately die-cut all-wood construction and a detailed 32-piece deck hardware fittings set. It can be built as a highly detailed display model or equipped with twin motors and twin propellers for full radio-controlled operation.

Based on the US Coast Guard 41' Utility Boat

The full-size 41-foot Utility Boat was developed as a multi-purpose Coast Guard workboat capable of handling a wide range of duties.

The real vessels were used for search and rescue, law enforcement, nearshore patrol and logistics operations. They featured a hard-chine planing hull, enclosed wheelhouse and twin-diesel/twin-propeller power system. The Coast Guard records the class as being built between 1973 and 1978.

This varied operational history makes the 41' Utility Boat an excellent subject for a working scale model.

Traditional All-Wood Construction

DUMA1214 is a genuine builder's kit rather than a pre-formed ready-to-run boat.

Dumas describes the model as featuring accurately die-cut all-wood construction, giving the modeller the satisfaction of constructing and finishing the vessel from traditional modelling materials.

At approximately 1/16 scale, there's plenty of room for detailed finishing and additional customisation.

For radio-controlled operation, Dumas designed the model around a twin-motor, twin-propeller drive system, replicating the basic propulsion layout of the full-size vessel.

Dumas recommends the #2337 Running Hardware Kit together with two #2004 6V electric motors. The manufacturer's current product information also specifies a suitable electronic speed controller, battery, charger and 2-channel radio system to complete the R/C installation.
