CLASSIC CARLECTABLES 1/18 FORD XA FALCON GT 1973 BATHURST - 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Golden Glory: 50 Years Since XA Falcon's Bathurst Triumph

Classic Carlectables proudly presents the Gold Livery Edition Ford XA Falcon GT, celebrating the 50th anniversary of its legendary 1973 Bathurst 1000 victory.

After the 1972 Supercar scare, Ford built two XA GT Hardtops for the new Manufacturers Championship, inheriting many Phase Four components. The XA duo of Moffat and Gibson showed strong form leading up to Bathurst, with solid performances in Adelaide and Sandown despite setbacks.

The 1973 Bathurst marked the debut of the 1000km format. With revised suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, lightweight Globe wheels, and specially built engines, the XAs were ready to compete. After mixed results in practice, both cars reverted to proven Sandown engines overnight a decision that paid off.

On race day, Gibsons car failed early, leaving Moffat to battle fiercely. A spin and a dramatic push-to-pits by rival Chivas saw Moffat regain the lead. Co-driver Pete Geoghegan played a crucial role, charging the XA Falcon into first before handing back to Moffat, who cruised to a commanding third Bathurst win in four years.

True to the era, signage changed even during the event. Our research found that the "Grace Bros" logos, initially taped over, became visible mid-race and our model captures that exact moment in history.
