Boeing P-8 A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft
NEW TOOLING!!
Multi-mission maritime patrol aircraft developed by Boeing for the United States Navy, based on the Boeing 737-800 airframe. Designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, the P-8A is equipped with advanced sensors, radars, and sonobuoys to detect and track submarines and surface vessels. It can also carry torpedoes, depth charges, and anti-ship missiles.
First introduced in 2013, the P-8A Poseidon has been adopted by several other countries, including India, the UK, and Australia. It is highly regarded for its extended range, high-speed capabilities, and versatility in both military and humanitarian missions, including search and rescue operations.
New tooling. 5 sprues. Assemble with landing gear and weapons bay open or closed. Missiles and torpedoes included.
Choice of markings for 3 aircraft:
- (1) US Navy P-8A LF-429, BuNo 168429, c/n 40809, VP-16 "War Eagles" Singapore 2014;
- (2 AND; 3) Royal Australian Air Force A47-001 AND; A47-012.
The Boeing P-8 Poseidon is an American maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft and an aircraft designed to combat submarines (ASW) and surface ships of modern times. The aircraft first flew in 2009 and entered service in 2013. To date, approximately 80 aircraft of this type have been built. The aircraft is 39.47 m long, with a wingspan of 37.64 m and a height of 12.83 m. Propulsion is provided by two CFM International CFM56-7B27A turbofan engines with a thrust of 121 kN each. Cruising speed is approximately 815 km/h, and the maximum flight range is approximately 8,300 kilometers. The aircraft has five internal pylons and six external ones on which it can carry a wide range of naval weapons.
The aircraft was originally developed for the US Navy to replace the aging Lockheed P-3 Orion aircraft. After the failure of the program to select a successor to the British Nimrod aircraft, Great Britain also expressed interest in the program. In order to shorten the research work and reduce the risk of failure, Boeing decided to use the proven, civilian Bo-737 aircraft as a platform for the new aircraft. Ultimately, a successful and modern maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine aircraft was created with rich electronic equipment - primarily the multi-role Raytheon APY-10 radar - and advanced communication equipment, including satellite communication. Interest in the Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft or orders for it were placed by countries - apart from the US and Great Britain - such as Australia, India, New Zealand and South Korea.
